The Candidates

Meredith Unity Party candidates represent three different regular political parties. Our slate of six residents includes one Republican and bears the endorsement of the Meredith Democratic caucus. Three of us—Supervisor candidate Keitha Capouya and Town Council candidates Dan Birnbaum and Ron Bailey—also will appear on the Conservative line in the November election.

Banning Industrial Wind Turbines

If elected, we will immediately revise the current town wind ordinance, and ban industrial-scale turbines. Turbines of this size—400-feet- tall or more—do not belong close to people’s homes. They would have health and safety consequences for neighboring property owners. They would benefit only a few landowners, bring little revenue to the town government, reduce our property values and ruin the rural character of Meredith. We will appoint an energy task force composed of knowledgeable residents to explore alternative possibilities such as solar power and small-scale wind turbines...

Keitha Capouya for Supervisor

Keitha Capouya for Supervisor

Keitha has lived in Meredith since 1974 and has deep roots in Delaware County. Her mother was born in Pepacton and her grandmother in Rock Rift, both towns that disappeared because of the New York City Watershed. A retired editor and publisher and president of New Amsterdam Books, she has been chairman of the Meredith Planning Board since 2002.

Dan Birnbaum for Town Council

Dan Birnbaum for Town Council

Dan has been a resident of the town since 1978. He owns and operates two business, bookstores in Oneonta and Albany specializing in college textbooks. He is on the board of directors of the West Kortright Centre and the Susquehanna Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club. He has attended nearly every meeting of the Town Board and Planning Board during the last 18 months.

Ron Bailey for Town Council

Ron Bailey for Town Council

A resident of Meredith since 1972, Ron served on the Meredith Planning Board for four years. He was a member of the Delhi school board for 14 years and its president for two terms. He is a former member of the Meridale Fire Department and Emergency Squad. A former journalist and senior editor at the original Life magazine, he is the author of numerous books.

William A. Jester for Superintendent of Highways

William A. Jester for Superintendent of Highways

Born in Meredith and a lifelong resident. Bill has spent 39 years working on roads and highways. He began on Meredith’s roads and then moved to the state highway department. He and his wife Betsy, who also worked for the state highway department for 35 years, are now retired. A registered Republican, Bill is endorsed by the Democrats, Republicans and Meredith Unity Party.

Louise M. Utter for Tax Collector

Louise M. Utter for Tax Collector

Born and raised in Meredith, Louise has had extensive experience with financial record keeping. She handled the office for her late husband’s plumbing and heating business and retired last year as a secretary at the New York State Department of Transportation in Oneonta.

Nejla A. Camponeschi for Town Justice

A resident since 1986, Nejla has been very active at Delaware Academy, serving as chairperson of the PTA and director of the Cultural Arts Program. She has been a member of the faculty at Hartwick College for 14 years and serves as an assistant dean there.
